Health factor

How close is your loan to liquidation, and what would it take to be safe? Type your own position.

Prices are example prices. Change them to today's prices; nothing is read from the market or your wallet.

Example Aave v3 values for ETH. Check the market you use; they are not read live.

Health factor

1.38Thin margin

Liquidation starts when this reaches 1.00.

ETH at $2,000: health factor 1.11, danger.

If prices don't move at all

At 6.0% borrow APR and 2.0% earned on your ETH, your debt grows by about $928 a year. Your health factor drifts to 1.36 in 6 months and 1.33 in a year. At this rate it reaches 1.00 in about 8 years.

If you get liquidated, you lose about $375 each time Aave v3 liquidates half your debt ($7,500), and $750 if all of it goes. The liquidator repays your USDC and takes 5% extra of your ETH as their reward. That is on top of the price drop itself.

Assumptions: How this is worked out
  • Health factor = collateral value × liquidation threshold ÷ debt value. Below 1.00 the position can be liquidated.
  • Liquidation price assumes the debt keeps its price. If you borrowed a volatile asset, what matters is the ratio between the two prices.
  • Liquidation sells part of your collateral at a discount (the liquidation penalty, often 5–10%), so you lose more than the shortfall.
  • Interest on the debt slowly lowers the health factor over time, even if prices stay still.
  • Thresholds and penalties differ by protocol, market and asset. The prefilled Aave and Kamino values are examples, not live market values; check the market you use. Morpho's penalty follows its formula: 1 ÷ (0.3 × LLTV + 0.7) − 1, capped at 15%.
  • Prices are example prices that you should change to today's prices. They are not read from the market.
  • Interest drift assumes today's borrow APR and collateral yield stay the same, compounded continuously.
